‘The Boondocks’ revival has a home at HBO!

As reported, Aaron McGruder‘s Pop culture provocateur has been rebooted by Sony Pictures Animation – with a view to put a modern spin on the show.

Now, details on its network and televised debut have been announced…

Per Variety, a two-season, 24-episode order has been made by HBO Max. It’ll see ‘The Boondocks’ return to screens beginning Fall 2020.

Additionally, all 55-episodes of the show’s original run will also land on the network’s streamer in tandem.

Speaking on the acquisition, Kevin Reilly, chief content officer for HBO Max and president of TBS, TNT and truTV said in a statement:

“‘The Boondocks’ was a revolutionary series that sparked conversations on hot button issues and brought dark subjects into the light with episodes like ‘The Trial of Robert Kelly’, ‘The Fundraiser’ and ‘The Story of Gangstalicious.’ Aaron is a gifted visionary whose unique style of storytelling is a welcome voice and we are elated The Freemans are making their thugnificent comeback on HBO Max.”

As for what viewers can expect, the new incarnation of ‘The Boondocks’ will serve up aspects of the familiar in that it’ll center around Freeman family and their combat against Uncle Ruckus. A “new” angle will see the once lowly Ruckus now serve as a prominent leader in Woodcrest County – and he rules with an iron fist. Suffice to say, hilarity will ensue when the two entities clash.

We are ready!

Today’s socio-political climate lends itself to endless avenues for The Boondocks to explore. As such, we’re all sorts of excited for its return.
